DESIGNS: CROSS FRAME SAFETY BICYCLES, 1886 onwards

The first successfully marketed ‘safety bicycle’ (pedal operated to the rear wheel) was the Premier in 1886. Its design was subsequently known as a cross frame. With some variations, it was current until the early 1890s.
