1950 Sunbeam Gent’s Special Tourist Model WR6
24″ Frame
26″ Wheels
BSA Three-Speed Gears with BSA Twist-Grip Gear Control
Supplied by Boult Cycles of Stafford
The Sunbeam Model WR6 Special Tourist is easy to identify because it was made only in 1950. It was the company’s first real new postwar model and featured the new BSA Twist-Grip Gear Control.
Sunbeam did not issue their postwar catalogue until 1948, and their 1948/49 models were really pre-war models with new names. By 1951 Sunbeams had a metal head-badge, so this is the only twist-grip model with a transfer (decal) on its headstock.
This example was mechanically restored around ten years ago by Dave Williams. Cosmetically it is unrestored and original. The Sunbeam transfers have faded, except for the Sunbeam name on the rear mudguard.
The cycle shop that supplied it still has its name transfer clearly displayed on the down tube and the rear mudguard.
It has been in storage for five years so will need new tyres before it’s ready to ride.
